Savings & Investment Options

What should my investment strategy be?

When will you need to pay for expenses?

Within the next several months?

If you plan to use ABLE savings in the near future or for ongoing expenses, you may want to consider a checking or savings account, or a conservative investment.

Within 1-3 years?

If the goal or expected expense is within 1-3 years, you may consider moderate investment options that offer a balance between growth potential and risk.

For the long term future?

If you don't need immediate access to your funds, you might consider a more aggressive investment option with higher risk and long-term growth potential.

Choose where to save or invest your funds

Depending on your goals and timeline, LA ABLE offers flexible options for everyday expenses, as well as longer-term investing.

  • Checking account with debit card

    • Use for short-to-medium term use
    • Low risk
    • FDIC insured
  • Investments (Stocks, bonds, money market)

Options ranging from aggressive strategies with higher volatility, but for potentially higher returns, to conservative ones focused on capital preservation

Investment Options

Choose from a range of options designed to fit your goals and comfort with risk. You can select multiple investment options and update how new contributions are allocated at any time. Allocations for existing funds may be changed up to twice per year.

SHORT TERM LIQUIDITY

Preserve your money

For investors who prioritize asset retention, money market funds try to maintain a stable share price.

Beneficiaries who will begin enrollment in the next 1-2 years may want to consider this fund since protecting existing savings may be more important than chasing additional growth.

Vanguard

Vanguard Federal Money Market Fund (VMFXX) seeks to provide current income while maintaining liquidity and a stable share price of $1.

SHORT TO INTERMEDIATE TERM INCOME

Automated investments that adjust over time

The LA ABLE program offers two individual investment options to help you create a personalized investment mix.

Beneficiaries who will begin enrollment in the next 3-5 years may want to consider these funds for high capital preservation and low capital appreciation.

Vanguard

Vanguard Short-Term Bond Index Fund (VBIRX) seeks to track the performance of a market-weighted bond index with a short-term dollar-weighted average maturity.

Vanguard Intermediate-Term Bond Index Fund (VBILX) seeks to track the performance of a market-weighted bond index with an intermediate-term dollar-weighted average maturity.

LONG TERM INVESTMENTS

Take control of your investments

The LA ABLE program offers four individual investment options to help you create a personalized investment mix.
